Annual Trails Challenge

Are you up for the Challenge?
We invite you to explore one of New Jersey's best kept secrets and to keep your mind and body fit along the way.

Join the fun at Tenafly Nature Center this summer while discovering why hiking at TNC is healthy. The objective of our Trails Challenge is to visit all 11 trails at the Tenafly Nature Center between July and August (and inspire others along the way using #TNCTrailblazer).

How to take part (Starting July 5)

  1. Pick up a passport at the TNC visitors center (suggested donation $10/family)
  2. Hike all 11 of our well marked trails (with a total of 7.3 miles) by Labor Day
  3. Fill out and submit a brief online trail log (found in the passport).
    You may also download a printable trial log to fill out along the way to keep track of your trek.
  4. After you complete and submit your online the trail log, come to the TNC visitors center to receive a special collectible Trailblazer prize pin (while supplies last).
  5. Have fun!

Thank you for checking out the trails at Tenafly Nature Center and we would love to hear about your experience but please only submit a trail log if you completed all of the trails.


No there is not! We encourage adults and families with children of all ages to take part!


Yes, anyone may participate in the Trails Challenge and you do not need to be a Tenafly resident or Tenafly Nature Center member to take part!


The trails are open to the public from one hour after sunrise until one hour prior to sunset all year round. The visitors center is open daily from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. It may be closed to the public during major holidays and programs.


Their is a suggested donation of $10 per family to participate in the trails challenge and that may be given at the Visitors Center when you pick up your passport booklet.

Additionaly, to access the trails for each visit between the hours of 9:30 am - 4:30 pm there is a small charge for visiting non-members ($2/person or $10/family). Members do not need to pay the admission fee.
