Over 60 Years of Community Service 

Service Projects

Keep the Tenafly Nature Center in mind for your Scout Project or Award! There are always a variety of projects such as removal of invasive plants, fence/bridge building and much more. Projects have to be planned with and agreed upon by a Tenafly Nature Center staff person.

Currently Available Service Projects

  • Building boardwalks to increase accessibility in wetland areas within the park
  • Constructing Kiosks at each of the preserves alternate entrances
  • Creating specialized learning spaces and elements for Forest School
  • Planning and planting a pollinator friendly habitat at entrance to TNC around the welcome sign

  • Designing a series of educational signs to be placed around Pfister’s pond.

  • Installing bird watching elements around Pfister’s pond. 

  • Working with GIS technology to create an invasive species map

Current Projects In Progress

  • Nathaniel Veit of Troop #206 is constructing a human sized interactive eagle nest for educational purposes
  • Grace Bosco of Troop #99578 is informing guest about the management and control of the Spotted Lantern Flys
  • Benjamin DeMarco of Troop #223 if fencing off an area to prevent further degradation and to provide a space for the propagation of native plant species

Renovated the classroom on red trail, including the building of 8 benches


2023 Daniel O'Sullivan of Troop #120

Rebuilt the boardwalk along The Main Trail by Pfister's Pond and installed several signs


2022 Jake Pleva of Tenafly Troop #86

Built a canoe rack and enriched the biodiversity of Phister's Pond by installing 4 native plant islands


2022 Charles Dutta of Tenafly Troop #25 

built an education display on the yellow trail and a little free library the main trail

2021 Patrick Gawel of Saddle Brook Troop #213   

built a new bridge from the Red trail to the Purple Trail
